"It's not like in the movies" says "Lucky Caramba" (çngel Ruiz) to "Vi–as", (Eleazar Ortiz), a freelance reporter who finds a story under his seat. "Lucky", a small-time mafioso with artistic aspirations, has an overly-ambitious girlfriend, "Dulce" (Laura Soria), and an unshakeable bodyguard "Mario", alias "The Bald Man" (Jesœs Fuente). The photography is by Oscar Dur‡n and production design by Vicent Diaz. Inspired in characters from the play "Hasta aqu’ hemos llegao" by actors Eleazar Ortiz and Laura Soria, "As Far Out As Here (From the Vatican, With Love)" received a production grant from the Madrid government and was shot in August 2001 in 12 locations in the city. Originated on digi-beta video, the short was edited in Final Cut Pro and transferred to 35mm film. The soundtrack has a combination of original music by accordionist Will Holshouser and his trio, plus songs such as "Youkali" (Kurt Weill) and "A Tocchi", expertly performed by çngel Ruiz, Chicho S‡nchez Ferlosio and Mariano Mar’n on piano.
