"Heart of Gold" is a short film in the tradition of the classic ghost tale, immortalized by American authors like Edgar Allan Poe or Ambrose Bierce. Writer and director Guido JimŽnez-Cruz adapted a short story by Reverend G. W. Kźndelicht, with two local New York State museums in mind as filming locations. JimŽnez-Cruz and producer, Leslie Dann, cast the main actors, Ruth Flaherty, Thomas Grube, Alice Hurwitz and Liz Rebert, in Manhattan. The rest of the performers came from upstate New York. Director of photography, Renato Falc‹o, captured the peak autumn foliage season in the region at the beginning of October. The rich atmosphere of the era was recreated with minimal resources. Research was made for historical accuracy on everything from costumes (Michelle R. Phillips) and cemetery gravestones (Bill Fick) to the typical foods found in an 1813 country kitchen (Carrie Fellows). During post production, JimŽnez-Cruz used the latest in digital editing technology in order to maintain high production quality at low costs. A trio of violin, cello and organ performed Will Holshouser's original soundtrack, which is an essential element in this gothic story of romance and irony.
